Privacy Policy
Open Lyceum collects the minimum data needed to run a learning management system. This page describes what is collected, how it is used, and who processes it.
What we collect
- Account data — email address, display name, and password hash (never the password itself). Required to log in and track progress.
- Enrollment and progress — which courses you're enrolled in, which videos you've watched, and your answers to problem sets. Used to show your progress back to you.
- Technical logs — IP address and request logs for security and error diagnosis, retained for up to 90 days.
How we use it
Your data is used only to operate the platform: to authenticate you, deliver courses, track and display your progress, and send essential account email (such as account activation and password resets). We do not use it for advertising or profiling.
Transactional email (account activation, password reset, and similar notices) is delivered through a third-party email provider acting as our processor. Only your email address and the message are shared, solely to deliver that message.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share personal data with third parties for their own purposes.
- We don't run behavioural advertising or analytics trackers.
- We don't sell course-completion data to recruiters or credentialing services.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies needed to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences (such as language). We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Third-party content
Video lectures are embedded from YouTube (MIT OpenCourseWare and Stanford Online channels). Loading these videos causes your browser to contact YouTube directly; YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that interaction. Some course resources link to PDFs hosted by the original institutions.
Where your data lives
The platform is self-hosted on servers located in the European Union. Data is not transferred or sold elsewhere, except as needed to deliver the email described above.
Your data and rights
You can view and update your profile, and delete your account at any time, via Account Settings. Deletion removes your account, progress records, and any forum posts. To request a copy of your data, contact us.
